Experience classical music in a new way: early music conquers the Duisburg campus!
Students in the early music department Folkwang University of the Arts will bring a series of concerts to the stage of the Small Concert Hall on the Duisburg campus in the summer semester of 2025. The first performances begin with a special focus on the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
The first concert will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. A discussion concert with Markus Möllenbeck will be presented under the title “Focus Bach”. This performance marks the start of a series that will continue on April 25, 2025 with further Bach works under the direction of Prof. Midori Seiler.
An extensive program
The program includes a total of six concerts that will take place until the end of June 2025. These events offer students in the bachelor's and master's programs the opportunity to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of early music. Particular attention is paid to the performance of historical instruments such as the violin, viola, cello, transverse flute and harpsichord.

- 28. April 2025: Vortragsabend der Instrumentalklassen Alte Musik, Leitung: Prof. Midori Seiler und Prof. Christian Rieger.
- 19. Mai 2025: Vortragsabend der Instrumentalklassen Alte Musik, Leitung: Prof. Midori Seiler und Prof. Christian Rieger.
- 23. Juni 2025: Vortragsabend der Instrumentalklassen Alte Musik.
- 27. Juni 2025: „Folkwang BAROCK“ – Musik von Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber und Georg Muffat, erneut unter der Leitung von Prof. Christian Rieger.
Tickets and access
Tickets for the concerts cost between 7 and 15 euros, with reduced prices available from 5 to 8 euros. Tickets are sold via the Folkwang card hotline, by email or at the box office. Students who show a school ID card have free entry.
The return of the concerts to the stage not only highlights the extensive training offering at the Duisburg campus, but also the commitment of the teachers. In addition to Prof. Christian Rieger and Prof. Midori Seiler, the lecturers also include Christian Goosses, Markus Möllenbeck, Michael Schmidt-Casdorff and Prof. Wolfgang Kostujak, all of whom contribute to the teaching of early music.
These concerts are an excellent opportunity for music lovers and those interested to experience the passionate work of the students.
