Applications start for the international summer academy in Hoyerswerda!
The application phase for the International TUD|excite Summer School 2025 has officially begun. The event will take place in Hoyerswerda from August 25th to 29th, 2025. This summer academy, organized by the Technical University of Dresden, is aimed at young scientists, including master's and diploma graduates, doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. This year the focus is on interdisciplinary teamwork, where participants are given opportunities to generate ideas and develop business models.
A special aspect of the program is the opportunity to develop innovative product ideas and business models in international teams. These groups can draw on a pool of patents or use their own inventions. The subject areas are broad and include medicine, construction, environment, engineering, mathematics and natural sciences. Business administration students are also welcome to apply.
Supporting program and application
The summer academy's supporting program includes workshops, networking events and cultural activities that promote exchange and collaboration between participants. The application deadline is May 31, 2025, and those interested have the opportunity to register using an online application form. Participants must cover travel costs themselves, while the remaining costs are covered.
Last year, 2024, the event was attended by an international audience, with a quarter of participants coming from Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. The Technical University of Dresden is working to further expand these international partnerships and communicate the event within the participating universities. Questions about the program can be directed to the excite team: franziska.greim@tu-dresden.de.
The International TUD|excite Summer School is part of the Zuse Innovators Program (Z-IP), which offers learning opportunities for idea generation and business model development. A key goal of this initiative is to enable young researchers to develop creative and innovative approaches that take both scientific and social concerns into account.
In parallel to these initiatives, the discussion about science communication emphasizes the need to inform society about the research process and to strengthen the role of young scientists. A summer school entitled “Communicating Science” is currently taking place in Berlin, where topics such as target group analysis and the development of individual communication strategies are discussed. Speakers will dedicate practical exercises in social media and video production, preparing participants for the challenges of modern science communication.
