Students show off their skills: Experiment show for the 4th Science Challenge in Hanover!

On March 27, 2025, students shared their knowledge and creative solutions in various projects at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH). The participants had intensively dealt with scientific topics for over six months. The works presented included the exciting study “Freeze protection for cells: An expedition into the world of cryoprotectants” and the analysis of the “Corrosion resistance of stainless steels in deionized water”.

The final event of the projects, Gauß-AG plus and Einstein's granddaughters, will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 3 p.m. in lecture hall B 305. Those interested are warmly invited to register. During this event the best groups of the online competition 4 Science Challenge excellent.

Diversity of MINT topics

Over 100 students took part in the 4 Science Challenge, a competition that encouraged them to tackle math and science and technology challenges. The competition is organized annually by the LUH, although the registration deadline for the current competition has already expired. The next round starts on September 22, 2025.

The tasks provided to the participants by MINT students promote teamwork and independent learning. Teams of up to five people can work on the tasks at the pace of their choice and submit their solutions within about four weeks. Depending on the quality of the submissions, the best groups will be invited to the awards ceremony in Hanover.

Competitive importance for students

Student competitions play a central role in promoting MINT subjects. They not only offer challenges that stimulate and motivate, but also serve as a platform to develop skills and stimulate interest in science and technology. The opportunity to win prizes for personal or academic achievements increases participants' self-confidence and promotes a sense of community.

Participation in such competitions not only strengthens the actors' knowledge but also their social skills. Teamwork, creativity and perseverance are crucial aspects. Even without winning, the students gain valuable experience that will accompany them throughout the rest of their school and professional careers. Study circle emphasizes that the competitive nature further increases fun and motivation.
